Glad you liked it May! I agree with you. These half-timbered buildings are beautiful and you find lots of them in England, too. But English castles look different.
I adore the half-timbered buildings. One of my grandmothers lived in an old heritage-protected thatched roof cottage for a short time before I moved to Australia. It was so adorable. New buildings certainly don't have that charm.
During our regular school trips to London we always stop at Canterbury. So our students get a first impression of typical old English architecture. And one of my favourite places in England is still Shakespeare's Stratford-on-Avon. Simply stunning.
Sigh! I wish I'd seen all the historical tourist attractions in England. I've been to about half of the London museums and Harrods (lol) and that's about it. Still - I get to see photos without the expense of the air travel on dA
